Introduction to Preservation Restrictions

Preservation restrictions are an important tool for municipalities, especially in communities that use Community Preservation Act funds. This workshop, held May 11, 2018 at the Chatham Town Hall Annex, covered the development and monitoring of preservation restrictions held at the local level, with case-study examples from towns using restrictions and holding and enforcing preservation restrictions.

Caring for Municipal, Museum, and other Non-Profit Historic Properties

This workshop provided information from preservation professionals who manage historic sites about funding mechanisms, building regulations that affect historic properties, condition assessments, cyclical maintenance, disaster preparedness, and working with contractors. It was held May 25, 2018 at Sandwich Town Hall.

Design Review Concepts, Cases, and Issues

This workshop, held June 1, 2018 at Barnstable Town Hall, explored issues in design review and management of local historic districts, using case-study examples and mock hearings to show how to address challenging issues in historic districts.

It was intended for Building Officials, Community Rating System (CRS) Coordinators, Town Planners, Coastal Resource Managers, Historical Commission members, Realtors and others interested in better understanding flood regulations, FEMA exemptions for historic structures, and how other coastal communities are addressing threats to historic buildings and neighborhoods in flood hazard areas.
