One of the purposes of the Cape Cod Commission is “the preservation of historical, cultural, archaeological, architectural, and recreational values” in the region. The Commission supports the promotion and preservation of artistic and cultural resources on Cape Cod, especially as they relate to economic growth.
The Commission recently released "Leveraging Cultural Assets in Economic Development on Cape Cod", a report on best practices and lessons learned for integrating the creative sector into commerce. The guide is intended to inspire collaboration and strategic planning, elevate successful projects throughout the region, and strengthens the ties of our arts and economy. This is a ten-year update to a 2009 guide that provided guidance on how to design initiatives that maximize communities’ cultural assets for economic development.
The Commission’s GIS and Geodesign team has also worked with municipalities on creating cultural asset inventories, including the Towns of Wellfleet and Orleans.
If you work in arts and culture on Cape Cod and would like to contribute your story to the regional understanding of the sector's economic impact, please fill out the case study survey.
