Cape Cod communities are receiving significant funding to support housing, wastewater, and economic development projects through the Commonwealth's OneStop for Growth grant program.

Cape Cod is increasingly vulnerable to the effects of sea level rise and storm surge and must prepare for the impact of more frequent and stronger storms. The Cape Cod Commission’s work includes tools and strategies to adapt to sea level rise and to increase the resilience of built, natural, and community systems.

Plenary and breakout sessions on both days of OneCape 2023 highlighted efforts to consider equity and diversity in the planning process and in crafting and implementing strategies to address our region's critical challenges.

Collaboration, regional planning, bold and new thinking: strategies to address the region’s housing affordability and availability issues took center stage during OneCape 2023.

As climate change continues to bring about more frequent and severe flooding, communities in flood-prone areas face increasing challenges adapting to these changes. On Cape Cod, where communities are particularly vulnerable, work to develop innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of flooding is underway.   

Each year, the Cape Cod Commission receives funding through the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development to provide technical assistance to towns in our region. The District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA) program helps municipalities with sustainable development and encourages partnerships to achieve planning and development goals that align with state and regional priorities.   

The Cape Cod Commission is creating a Regional Housing Strategy to address housing supply, affordability, and availability issues by identifying appropriate areas for housing development, along with policies and strategies to further the plan’s goals.

The Cape Cod Commission has been awarded a $148,534 grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to develop tools to help communities regulate development within the floodplain and improve resiliency to climate change threats.

Many of the Cape Cod Commission's projects and initiatives include robust stakeholder engagement: public meetings, presentations, design charettes, and public comments. But the pandemic rendered in-person meetings infeasible. So how do you connect with stakeholders when you can't meet in person? 

The Cape Cod Commission is pleased to announce it has received funding through the state's Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to create new regulatory tools for development in the floodplain.
