Annual transportation planning documents endorsed

The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) voted to endorse the region’s annual transportation planning documents on Monday, May 20, 2024.  The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a five-year schedule of construction projects for surface transportation in the region, including roadway, transit, and multimodal projects. The Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) is a list of projects to be completed annually by Cape Cod Commission transportation staff on behalf of the MPO. A more connected network: surveying Cape Cod’s side path crossings

The Commission’s Side Path Crossing Inventory is part of an ongoing regional effort to promote safe bicycle and pedestrian accommodations across Cape Cod, consistent with the Cape Cod Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The Side Path Crossing Inventory builds on the 2022 Rail Trail Crossing Inventory and includes safety recommendations for side paths along roadways.

As part of the annual transportation planning process, the Cape Cod Commission is planning several outreach events designed to inform the public about and gather comments on the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Advancing non-motorist data collection

The Cape Cod Commission is continuing and enhancing its efforts to collect non-motorist data across the region. Commission staff collect data continuously in specific areas using "eco-counters," portable infrared trackers that use heat sensing to count pedestrians and bicyclists.

Notice of Public Review and Comment Period: FFY 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendment 2

During a meeting held on March 25, 2024, the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) released the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendment 2 for a 21-day public review and comment period. The TIP serves as a prioritized listing of roadway, bridge, and transit projects proposed for implementation during the next five (5) federal fiscal years.

Examining crashes at Cape Cod’s highway interchanges 

Under the Unified Planning Work Program, Commission staff have begun a year-long process to analyze five years of crash data from more than 13 interchanges. Staff is studying crash history to determine each crash's exact location, examining the type and severity of crashes, and reviewing existing conditions, such as traffic controls and pedestrian accommodations.
