Addressing the challenges of downtown Chatham’s parking and traffic flow, Commission staff proposed a range of potential solutions at a meeting held on July 30, 2024, aimed at improving parking, safety, and multimodal accommodations along Main Street.

The Cape Cod Vision Zero Action Plan, a pathway to a safer future, will include a systematic crash analysis and set of solutions to tackle the root causes of all crashes, emphasizing those involving bicyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorists. The Action Plan will consider a range of low-cost, high-impact regional strategies such as bike light distribution, updated pedestrian signal equipment, and significant infrastructure improvements at key locations. Completing the Action Plan will make all fifteen Cape Cod towns eligible for Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Implementation Grants to leverage federal funding to implement strategies.

The Cape Cod Commission looks forward to welcoming you to OneCape 2024 for two days of exciting discussions focused on Cape Cod’s most pressing issues. Topics for this year’s summit will be cross-cutting for both days and include sustainable and equitable development, economic opportunities, natural and water resources protection, climate action, and community resilience.  Sessions will highlight local, regional, and national successes and opportunities for innovation.

The Cape Cod Commission is seeking public input as we develop a Vision Zero Action Plan for Cape Cod to identify and eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from vehicle crashes for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and drivers. Roadway users are encouraged to share their thoughts about roadway safety using an online, interactive public comment tool developed by the Commission and consultant Kimley-Horn to identify locations with safety concerns or where crashes or near-crashes have happened.

Diverse housing options are needed to ease the region’s housing crisis, but securing a permit for new multifamily home construction on Cape Cod can be difficult and lengthy. The Commission is working with a consulting team of Flintlock LAB, Union Studio Architecture and Design, and Kronberg Urbanists and Architects to develop plans for a variety of compact and small-scale housing types, such as detached accessory dwelling units or cottages, duplexes, townhouses, triplexes, and small multifamily buildings.

The Cape Cod Commission’s transportation department provides data collection services to all 15 towns in the region. To help with data collection for internal studies and requests from towns, the Cape Cod Commission hires summer traffic technicians to perform a variety of data collection efforts throughout the region.
