Unpaved Roadway Inventory

The Commission conducted an Unpaved Roadway Inventory to understand the location and ownership of the region’s unpaved (dirt/gravel) roads. Using planimetrics data, town data, the MassDOT Roadway Inventory, and local knowledge, Commission staff developed an online viewer to display the road surface type, and ownership (public vs. private) of the roadways across Cape Cod. The Unpaved Roadway Inventory will support the annual work associated with the Regional Pavement Management Systems Report.

The Unpaved Roadway Inventory viewer displays the surface type and jurisdiction type of each roadway on Cape Cod. Roadways are classified as either public, private, or unknown with either a paved, unpaved, or unknown surface type. The overall purpose of this viewer is to help aid municipalities to better understand their roadways and be a reliable resource for help with the Pavement Management Systems process.
