As required under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), the Commission coordinates transportation planning activities under the guidance of the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization, a collaboration of local, regional, state, and federal officials.
The Cape Cod Joint Transportation Committee (CCJTC) is the local advisory group to the MPO.
Efforts include the preparation of the annual Unified Work Program for Transportation Planning Activities, the annual update of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), any necessary TIP amendments, and development and implementation of the Cape Cod Regional Transportation Plan.
The Regional Transportation Plan seeks to balance efforts to expand the Cape's transportation capacity and efficiency, to expand alternate modes of travel, and to implement local and regional projects through the TIP. The plan is currently undergoing its four-year update.
The Cape Cod MPO approves the Unified Work Program, the Regional Transportation Plan, and the TIP.
