PUBLIC WORKSHOPS TO SHAPE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN

July 13, July 19, and July 28

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA -- On behalf of the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Cape Cod Commission is holding a series of workshops to gather ideas to update the long-range transportation plan for Cape Cod.

The workshops focus on different modes of transportation. Each workshop will include panelists representing local transportation agencies, advocacy groups, and 'experts' in the topic at hand. Workshop attendees will learn about how the Regional Transportation Plan can lead to funding for transportation projects in their communities. Cape transportation stakeholders will share their visions for improved transportation, and attendees will have an opportunity to pose questions and provide suggestions to these decision-makers.

The first workshop, held on June 26, focused on bicycle and pedestrian modes. The remainder of the workshops are as follows:

"The workshops are a great opportunity to focus on some of the most important components of the Cape's transportation system," explains Cape Cod Commission Transportation Engineer Lev Malakhoff, one of the organizers of the workshops.

The public is encouraged to attend. For more information about the workshops, contact the Cape Cod Commission's transportation staff (phone 508-362-3828 or e-mail trans@capecodcommission.org) or visit the Web site: www.gocapecod.org/rtp

Written comments about transportation issues are also encouraged and may be sent to the Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization in care of the Cape Cod Commission, P.O. Box 226, Barnstable, MA 02630.

The Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) includes representatives from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation, Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Cape Cod Commission, Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, Barnstable County Commissioners, Barnstable Town Council, and selectmen from towns in the Outer, Mid, and Upper Cape.
