Cape Cod Pathways Plans Eighth Cape Walk
June 5 through June 13, 2010

Cape End-to-end Walk with Nature

BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA -- The eighth Cape Walk event, a nine-day trek across Cape Cod with some of the region's most experienced hikers and trail walkers, is set to start Saturday, June 5, 2010, and to end Sunday, June 13, 2010. Sponsored by Barnstable County's Cape Cod Pathways initiative and organized under the leadership of the Cape Cod Commission and AmeriCorps Cape Cod, participants will journey from West Falmouth Harbor in Falmouth on Saturday, June 5, to Herring Cove in Provincetown on Sunday, June 13.

Cape Walk is not a fundraiser but rather a celebration of Cape Cod's many conservation areas, which preserve some of the most beautiful and unique habitats in New England. In conjunction with the annual fall Cape Cod Pathways "Walking Weekend," Cape Walk brings walking enthusiasts onto the trails with experienced guides to provide a safe and informative experience. Created in 1993, the Cape Cod Pathways mission is to advance the development of a network of walking trails that extends from one end of the Cape to the other.

Cape Walk participants may walk only one day, join in for several days, or participate in the walk for the entire distance over the nine days. They experience the wide range of natural habitats on the Cape, many of which are unknown to visitors and residents alike. The routes cover long distances each day, over varied topography and sand. Organizers offer their tips for a successful experience, along with the schedule and directions, on the Cape Cod Pathways Web site: www.capecodcommission.org/pathways

Those planning to participate are asked to register by email: pathways@capecodcommission.org
