Land Protection Tools

The Cape Cod Commission's natural resources specialist worked with the Commission's GIS department and the Massachusetts Office of Geographic and Environmental Information (MassGIS) to create a Web-based mapping tool for the Cape Cod Regional Open Space Plan.
The Regional Open Space Plan and Interactive GIS Web Tool provides an easy way to view protected and unprotected open space on Cape Cod in relation to significant resources.The ability to show these resources on a map and to perform simple queries can assist in identifying and creating "green infrastructure" for the Cape. This capability will allow towns and land trusts to set priorities for open space acquisition that will meaningfully protect and connect Cape Cod's most sensitive resources.
Currently in a review state (December 2007), the mapping tool is available at a MassGIS Web site.
