The Town of Sandwich, which borders the Cape Cod Canal, is yet another active town in the business of purchasing open space. Mark Galkowski, Conservation Officer and a Sandwich Land Bank Committee contact, spoke about the Round Hill Golf Club purchase:
The Round Hill Golf Club (now known as Sandwich Hollows) was purchased by the Town of Sandwich. In the agreement, additional open space parcels that surrounded the golf club were purchased with $6,000,000 in Land Bank funds. The 218-acre lot abuts other town owned land and is used frequently for passive recreation.
"Buy cheap!" Mr. Galkowski says. "We've been fortunate to purchase large properties for relatively less money. Go for limited appraisal and make sure to survey your lands."
