Environmental Economist

Seeking an experienced economist to work as part of a team to craft economic strategies for the region, ensuring an understanding of the value and benefits from the natural environment. Monitor and analyze market and environmental trends and interpret indicators to ascertain the overall health of an environment and the economy. Conduct quantitative research, build models, perform economic, fiscal, and market analyses, and assist with regional planning projects and policy research.

Master’s degree in Environmental or Natural Resources Economics or related field and five years of relevant work experience in economic development and conceiving and implementing policy initiatives involving state and federal agencies; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced Degree preferred.

Transportation Engineer/PE

Develops transportation plans for Barnstable County in conformance with U.S. and MA Department of Transportation requirements to access federal and state transportation funding for the region. Develops studies, collects and analyzes data, and interprets results for a variety of transportation related projects, primarily under the Unified Planning Work Program. Reviews Transportation Impact Assessment Studies for Developments of Regional Impact and environmental notification forms. Participates in Regional Economic Strategy Executive Team and planning projects.

Requires superior analytical, quantitative, communication, and organizational skills; knowledge of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles and practices, relevant land use planning, economic, sociological and environmental impacts of traffic and transportation projects.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation or civil engineering with a specialty in traffic engineering and parking design and five years of experience in transportation design; Master’s Degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months; Civil Engineer Designation.

Ability to visualize data, prepare public presentations and create graphic media. Supports public education through media outlets and by addressing local and regional officials and community groups. Ability to manage projects, plan, organize, analyze problems, formulate recommendations, and prepare reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of public and private groups including elected officials. Works directly with Executive Director in organizing internal and external communications.

Requires superior communication, organization, public presentation and graphics skills, and independent judgment and initiative. Bachelor’s degree in economics, communications, graphic design, public administration, regional planning, or related field plus three to five years of experience at the local, regional or state level; master’s degree preferred; combination of private and public sector experience desirable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2 Traffic Technicians - Summer 2018

Traffic Counting Technicians - $15.50/hr. Download complete job description

Two positions available for the Summer 2018 season (mid May to late August) to set up traffic counters and collect and process data collected from the counters; manage the traffic count database; assist in the Regional Transportation Planning Process and conduct turning movement counts at selected Cape Cod intersections. The ideal candidates will have completed at least one full year of technical courses related to the position (engineering, transportation planning), be familiar with Microsoft Windows, Office, spreadsheet/database programs and Geographic Information Systems.

Valid motor vehicle operator's license and access to a reliable vehicle to perform field work as well as the ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs. required.
