    Regulatory Role

In addition to planning with towns for residential waste management, the Cape Cod Commission's regulatory authority includes review of the handling, storage, and disposal of waste materials for proposed Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs). Minimum performance standards for large-scale developments protect drinking water supplies and ensure proper on-site management of waste materials. These standards are specified in the Cape Cod Regional Policy Plan.

    State Planning and Regulation

Cape Cod is formally represented on the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) by the Cape Cod Commission's Deputy Director. The MassDEP web site provides more information about the State Solid Waste Master Plan.
