The Cape Cod Commission Act envisioned a broad-based approach to economic development, one that recognizes the importance of Cape Cod's environment to its economy. The Commission works cooperatively with area chambers of commerce and other agencies, including Barnstable County's Cape Cod Economic Development Council, to foster the year-round economic health of the region. In addition to guiding businesses through the Commission's regulatory review process, its Economic Development Program compiles and interprets demographic and economic information about Cape Cod. Through resulting publications and studies, the Commission supports business development and other planning needs. The Commission also encourages industries that maximize economic gains while minimizing environmental impacts and favors the rehabilitation and reuse of existing sites.
