In 1994, the Cape Cod Commission first published a design manual, Designing the Future to Honor the Past (33.9MB PDF file), to provide technical assistance in the design of buildings that are reviewed by the Commission as Developments of Regional Impact. The Commission also encourages towns to adopt the design manual or use it as guidance in their own local reviews of new developments.
The Commission's planning staff have just completed a draft version of a supplement to the existing design manual, focusing on the design of large-scale buildings. The draft is divided into two main parts, one presenting strategies for siting large buildings, and the other presenting strategies for the design of the buildings themselves.
The draft is available in two digital formats: Comments may be sent:
Once comments are received, a revised draft will be presented first to the Cape Cod Commission and then to the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates before the document is adopted as an addition to the existing design technical bulletin. |
