Cape Cod population more than doubled from 96,656 in 1970 to nearly 230,000 in 2004, far outpacing growth rates of neighboring Plymouth County, as well as the State and the Nation over those 34 years. In the most recent 14 years, the Cape's 23% population growth rate from 1990-2004 also surpassed those of Plymouth County, the State, and the Nation.
