The Geographic Information System (GIS) department of the Cape Cod Commission supports the land use planning and regulatory work of the agency. A major responsibility is to provide technical assistance to Cape Cod towns and to other departments in Barnstable County's regional government. Assistance ranges from providing copies of data layers to making complex maps through an iterative process of drafts and revisions. The GIS department is a service center for regional GIS data and digital maps with hundreds of theme-based layers that can be used by town GIS departments and their consultants, nonprofit agencies, and businesses.
